Faculty and staff returned to the Gowanda Central School District campus on Wednesday (Aug. 29, 2018) for the first day of the 2018-2019 academic year ahead of student attendance.
Opening remarks were given by Superintendent Dr. Robert Anderson, who introduced a school safety presentation led by Director of Facilities Richard Smith and School Resource Officer Ben Shields. Additional input and guidance was provided by Chris Baker, director of Emergency Services for Cattaraugus County, and Sgt. Tom Kelly of the New York State Police. Faculty meetings, lunch and classroom work followed the annual safety presentation.
On Thursday, GCS staff will attend an all-day professional development session titled “Re-envisioning Learning: Addressing the Critical Needs of Our Students” by Dr. Bill Draggett at the Cassadaga Valley Central School District.
The first day of student attendance at Gowanda is Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018.
